Not Otherwise Specified

These are sites that aren't specifically about mental health issues, or don't deal with treatments and the like.

Project Prepare - Not a mental health site.  "Project Prepare has been teaching medical students to perform breast and pelvic exams in the San Francisco Bay Area for 22 years."  The site itself is just getting underway.  I list it here because it fits in with the Crazy Meds' ethic of patients taking a bigger part in their health care, and not just laying back and thinking of England.  Also because the way anticonvulsants (a.k.a. mood stabilizers) interact with girly hormones in general and oral contraceptives specifically, taking certain medications can mean a lot more visits with the OB-GYN, and Ms. Wentworth's ideas could be of a lot of help to about 50% of this site's readers.

HealthFinder - Ask Uncle Sam, maybe he knows!  Put your tax dollars to work, folks, as you've already paid for this service.   I find the information presented to be amusing, a mix of the sort of pamphlets Dr. Hibbert would give out to the Simpsons along with solid research leading to more interesting studies.  But if you need one of those stupid pamphlets to explain something to a family member because that's the only way they can comprehend what crazy means, this is the place to get them.

AMA Doctor Finder - Need to find a doctor near where you live?  Let the AMA help!  You can search by location and specialty.   This extremely handy tool will show you the doctor's primary and any secondary specialty, where they went to school and had their residency.

NoLongerLonely - This site is rare for the Internet for two reasons: it's a dating site that specializes in people who are mentally ill, and it's completely free to use.  That's right, everyone's crazy, including the guy who runs it, and it doesn't cost you anything to get in touch with the other people.  So if you have no idea of how to tell a normal person that you're touched in the head, but are sick and tired of spending yet another night alone, then this is the site for you.

Medical Library Association Encyclopedic Guide to Searching and Finding Health Information on the Web - This particular page is there big list of mental health therapies, therapists and treatments.  Crazymeds is good enough to be on it!

Carolina Disability's Disability Discussion Fora - You don't have to live in the Carolinas to find the answer here!  People in the system, both specialists and clients, get together to ask and answer questions about SSI / SSDI.

Along the same lines as above - Social Security Disability Forum is another good place to discuss issues relating to the overly complicated process of applying for benefits, transitioning back to the workforce if and when you're up for it, and the general health and wellbeing of the Social Security system.  The signal-to-noise ratio is pretty good.

People do recreational drugs.  Crazy people do recreational drugs.  Crazy people taking prescription medications do recreational drugs.  The first case is often not a problem, unless you wind up having a substance abuse issue.  Or you drive under the influence.  Or just happen to run into Officer Friendly under the influence or while possessing the illicit variety.  Now crazy people doing recreational drugs can be a problem, especially while taking prescription meds.  Does this mean I have to stand over everyone with a ruler and tell you all to just say, "No."  That is never going to work.  So in an effort to try a little harm reduction here are some sites where you can try to get some straight dope on the dope.  If you're going to be stupid, please, try to be somewhat less stupid, mmmmkay?  Thanks to Crazy Talk's anafagodma for finding and sorting these out for me.  This is from her post on the Way Off Label board.

http://www.Lycaeum.org/ has info on recreational and regularly prescribed drugs, and it is international. It's a little sparse itself, unless you're into molecules, but there are loads links to other informational sites. International.

http://www.Erowid.org/ is always worth throwing into the mix. It is the granddaddy central of information on chemicals, plants, pharmaceuticals. . .and apparently activism and spirituality as well. Hmmm, who woulda known? There are full-blow books by Aleksander Shulgin published on this site, scientific articles, personal experiences ("trip reports") legal data for various countries, up to half a dozen FAQs for some substances, pharmacological data, and, of course, the ubiquitous representations of molecular structure... International.

http://www.bluelight.ru/ has a huge forum full of very nasty people but loads of archives. The FAQ has an extremely useful post on anti-depressants and recreational drugs. Interestingly, there are a number of physicians who belong to this forum. I strongly recommend registering for full access to the information, but treading lightly as far as posting goes. This site deals strictly with recreational drug use. Totally international.

The Overlords of the 12 Zernox Galaxies have compelled me through messages in the Sunday Chronicle to beg you for spare change.  So if this site has been of use and/or amusement to you, please see if you could

All rights reserved. No warranty is expressed or implied in this information. Consult one or more doctors and pharmacists before taking, or changing how you take any neurological and/or psychiatric medication. Your mileage may vary. What happened to us won't necessarily happen to you. Nobody on this site is a doctor, therapist, or a pharmacist. We don't portray them either here or on TV. Only doctors can diagnose and treat an illness. Some doctors tend to get pissed off by patients who know too much about medications, so tread lightly when and where appropriate. Diagnosing yourself from a website is like defending yourself in court, you suddenly have a fool for a doctor. Don't be a cyberchondriac, thinking you have every disease you see a website about, or that you'll get every side effect from every medication. Self-prescribing is just as dangerous.  All information on this site has been obtained through personal experience, the experiences of my friends, the experiences of people reported on online support groups, and from sources that are referenced throughout the site.  Know your sources!  As such the information presented here is not a substitute for real medical advice from your real doctor, just a compliment to it.  No neurologists, psychiatrists, therapists or pharmacists were harmed in the production of this website. All brand names of the drugs listed in this site are the trademarks of the companies listed after them in the pages about the drugs, even though those companies may or may not have been acquired by other companies who may or may not be listed in this site by the time you read this. Always read the PI sheet that comes with your medications and never ever throw them away.  If you didn't get a PI sheet, demand one.  Loudly.  Crazy Meds is not responsible for the content of sites we provide links to.  We like them, but what's on those sites is their business, not ours.  Very little information about visitors to this site is collected or saved. And from time to time I do look at search terms used to find it in an effort to make the information I present more relevant. Use only as directed. Void where prohibited.
