Sites About Depression
When you feel lower than whale shit on the bottom of the ocean. When there's nothing to live for except the hope that someone will kill you now. It's just been day after day after night after sleepless night of staring at the ceiling, or the TV, or just struggling through a colorless world trying not to kill yourself for one reason or another. Why should you even bother with learning more? Because you don't have to keep living like that.

McMan's Depression and Bipolar Web - If there's anyone else out there who's covering the bipolar beat in a way similar to mine, it's John McManamy. Cutting through the bullshit and getting right to the heart of the matter of affective mood disorders (or "the differently ordered moods" as one correspondent of mine called them), you'll find the best collection of articles, studies, and news reports anywhere. And not just collected, but summarized in a way that regular people can understand. If you find my style too over the top for your taste, or not focused enough on bipolar and/or depression, this is the site to read. Even if you like this site you should still read John's. Highly recommended by anyone and everyone who really knows their shit about the ups and downs of bipolar disorder.
Dr. Ivan's Depression Central - More like mood disorder central. Depression and bipolar. If you think my web design skills are lacking...But no matter, content is what is important. Especially from a real doctor. If it has to do with a mood disorder and you've wanted to ask your doctor what might be some stupid question, don't waste your money or your time, Dr. Ivan might already have the answer for you.
About.com's Depression Page - You'll find tons of quality information about meds, articles on how to deal with symptoms, get along with your day to day living, find the right doctors and so forth. About.com is full of quality information.
The Depression Center - This is the site for Major Depressive Disorder. When you really need to take antidepressants. The site features a forum moderated by health care professionals.
The Depression & Bipolar Support Alliance - All the differently ordered mood people in one place. It's mostly advocacy and support, but, hey, we need that too.
Wings of Madness - Articles, rants and FAQs on depression. Plus links, blogs and a forum.
Working in the Dark Fawn Fitter's book on holding a job whilst in the throes of major depressive disorder has its own website.

????????? - ???! - my Russian is not being so good, but I am thinking that is looking like "Depression - NO!" I have no idea about the quality or stance of this site, all I can tell is that they discuss depression, bipolar, other psychiatric issues and meds. Plus links to online tests, the DSM and other psychology sites in Russian.
Open Directory of Depression Sites - A couple hundred of them. From the suicidally whiney to drug company fronts.

Your mileage may vary. What happened to us won't necessarily happen to you. I am neither a doctor nor a pharmacist. I don't portray either here or on TV. Only a doctor can diagnose and treat an illness. Some doctors tend to get pissed off by patients who know too much about medications, so tread lightly when and where appropriate. Diagnosing yourself from a website is like defending yourself in court, you suddenly have a fool for a doctor. Don't be a cyberchondriac, thinking you have every disease you see a website about, or that you'll get every side effect from every medication. All information on this site has been obtained through personal experience, the experiences of my friends, the experiences of people reported on online support groups, and from sources that are referenced throughout the site. As such the information presented here is not a substitute for real medical advice from your real doctor, just a compliment to it. No psychiatrists or pharmacists were harmed in the production of this website.
