Self Injury / Cutting Support Groups When you're dead inside you just have to do something to
know that you still feel anything. Or you have to take it all out on yourself. Or you have to let out the bad feelings. Because it
was somehow your fault you were abused. There are a thousand reasons to cut or otherwise harm
yourself. There are thousands of reasons not to. The people in
your immediate vicinity may not give a rat's ass, but you're not totally alone. Bodies Under Siege Coping
techniques, support, dealing with the stigma, fighting the urge, delving in the
whys of self-injury. A huge site with over 4,000 members. See what I
mean about your not being alone? A strong emphasis on safety and not
triggering anyone. Includes info on popular comorbid conditions like
eating disorders and depression. Thanks to ethereal for pointing out this
site to me.
Safe
Haven Another huge site, with over 5,000 members. Focusing
on support and letting out those personal demons that drive people
to injury themselves. Plus eating disorders, depression, meds,
dealing with family and friends and just about everything else in a
life where you struggle not to cut yourself.
The Self-Injurers Sanctum Yahoo Group This is a group for
self-injurers who are still in school. It can be high school or
college. This is just for school aged people because sometimes it
can be hard to relate to the problems of a middle-aged person when
you are a school-aged person. This is a place for support! No
one will judge you here! - It requires
registration to read, so I don't know what's going on. Anyway,
I'm way too old.
Self-Injurers Anonymous - Another group recommended to me by
ethereal. Just five months old, but getting a lot of traffic.
Which is a bummer if you think about it hard enough. From
suicide to coping tools.
LifeSIGNS - Moderated
site where registration and participation are mandatory.
Again, given the sensitive nature of self-injury, these are not
surprising requirements. That's all I have so far. Self Injury / Cutting carries one
of the worst stigmata around. There's not even an open
directory listing of support groups. Even the number of news
stories is miniscule despite the huge number of members on two of
the above fora. No wonder this is rightly called "the secret
shame." Some of the sites that offer
A Little Bit of Everything have self-injury
boards. Most don't. Why You Should Join a Support Group

Given the heavy stigma of self-injury and the dearth of groups, I'll forgo my
usual criterion of requiring that they be open to guest viewing. Even if you're starting your own let me know. There's no guarantee I'll
list it, but you never know. English language is not a requirement. The Overlords of the 12 Zernox Galaxies have compelled me
through messages in the Sunday Chronicle to beg you for spare change. So

Consult one or more doctors and pharmacists before taking, or changing how you take any neurological and/or psychiatric medication. Your mileage may vary. What happened to us won't necessarily happen to you. Nobody on this site is a doctor, therapist, or a pharmacist. We don't portray them either here or on TV. Only doctors can diagnose and treat an illness. Some doctors tend to get pissed off by patients who know too much about medications, so tread lightly when and where appropriate. Diagnosing yourself from a website is like defending yourself in court, you suddenly have a fool for a doctor. Don't be a cyberchondriac, thinking you have every disease you see a website about, or that you'll get every side effect from every medication. Self-prescribing is just as dangerous. All information on this site has been obtained through personal experience, the experiences of my friends, the experiences of people reported on online support groups, and from sources that are referenced throughout the site. Know your sources! As such the information presented here is not a substitute for real medical advice from your real doctor, just a compliment to it. No neurologists, psychiatrists, therapists or pharmacists were harmed in the production of this website. All brand names of the drugs listed in this site are the trademarks of the companies listed after them in the pages about the drugs, even though those companies may or may not have been acquired by other companies who may or may not be listed in this site by the time you read this. Always read the PI sheet that comes with your medications and never ever throw them away. If you didn't get a PI sheet, demand one. Loudly. Crazy Meds is not responsible for the content of sites we provide links to. We like them, or they're paid advertisements, or they're something you should read to make an informed decision about a particular med. Sometimes they're more than one of those things. But what's on those sites is their business, not ours. Very little information about visitors to this site is collected or saved. And from time to time I do look at search terms used to find it in an effort to make the information I present more relevant. Use only as directed. Void where prohibited.
