Bipolar Support Groups
When you're so happy you could kill yourself. You've just bought every single thing on eBay imaginable regarding your world-conquering project, only to plunge into the depths of despair when one of the things doesn't quite fit into your nebulous plans and the bills for your maxed-out credit cards are now due. Where do you turn for support?

Mood Garden - Online home of a New Jersey-based support group, but open to anyone. Meds, life on the mood yo-yo, comorbid anxiety & panic, support for people with bipolar family members, and the horrors of poetry.
For the face-to-face groups, there's one place to start if you're depressed or bipolar: The Depression & Bipolar Support Alliance Directory of Support Groups.
There's also a bipolar meet up the second Monday of each month.
Brainstorm: Your Pediatric Bipolar InfoSource Absolutely fantastic and vital resource for all of you parents out there with bipolar children. This is the no bullshit place to go for information on meds, treatments, dealing with doctors and schools and just dealing with more than one life ravaged by an illness that is hard enough to be comprehended by an adult who has it. It's a moderately active forum, but well worth being involved with if your kid is on the bipolar rollercoaster and/or med-go-round.
Here's where I used to hang out a lot: the Bipolar Fora on about.com. I was the co-host of the Medications folder and former host of the News & Information folder on the main forum. The support and information here is the amongst the best. It's the best free site I've seen, and that's why I was there often until Crazy Meds took over my life.
The DBSA people have their own online group.
A Silver Lining - an in-depth site that covers a great deal of territory - the medical, the psychological, the creative, the news and the humor of bipolar disorder. Health On the Net compliant.
Bipolar Support.org - Dealing with the stigma, your family, insurance and legal issues, meds, creative urges, meds everything else that makes up life on the mental yo-yo.
Bipolar Disorder Web Community - The new home for the former MSN group. Mostly dealing with therapies and the various destructive and painful aspects of bipolar - mania, depression, suicidal thoughts, addictive behavior and writing poetry. Doctor moderated, which is a big plus.
Bipolar Aware - Bipolar Brits! This UK-based community that deals with treatments, diagnoses, family, friends, and life on the manic-depressive rollercoaster.
livejournal's Bipolar Community - Blogging as part of support group activity. At least one study has shown journaling to be a positive way of dealing with emotional trauma. Also look for bipolar sites elsewhere in the blogshere. E.g. bptii.blogs.com, Banjk's Bipolar Blog at journalspace.com bipolar.blogging.com
Support for Spouses & Family of the Bipolar
Support for Parents of Bipolar Children
Orkut's Bipolar Community - a new group in the growing, albeit somewhat exclusive and geeky online community.
tribe.net's bipolar tribe - If you're part of tribe net, you know the deal. If you're not, you can find out. Das SelbsthilfeForum www.bipolar-forum.de - Forum for Germany's depression & bipolar support alliance. "Das Selbsthilfe - Forum dient als unabhängige Plattform für bipolar Erfahrene, deren Angehörige, Partner, Freunde, Selbsthilfegruppen und initiativen sowie Interessierte. Es bietet die Möglichkeit zum Informationsaustausch und Präsentation von Arbeiten, zwecks Verbesserung der Gesundheit, des Wohlbefindens und der Lebenssituation." Alles in Deutsche. Trouble bipolaire / Maniaco-dépression - fora-based site. Mostly support, but offering some information on books, meds and treatments. C'est tout en français. " Nous sommes un petit groupe de bipolaires, ou maniaco-dépressifs, et d'accompagnants. Notre site tente de favoriser la communication, comme de fournir certaines bases d'information sur notre affection."

If you know of any good bipolar support groups / fora / chat rooms where you don't have to register just to take a look (but I'm fine with guests not being able to post or otherwise participate, just being able to look around is my only criterion), send an e-mail to jerod23 at gmail dot com and I'll check them out. Even if you're starting your own let me know. There's no guarantee I'll list it, but you never know. English language is not a requirement.
The Overlords of the 12 Zernox Galaxies have compelled me through messages in the Sunday Chronicle to beg you for spare change. So if this site has been of use and/or amusement to you, please see if you could

Hey, did you find this page all by itself through Google or some other search engine? Great! But to really appreciate the entire site, you need to start here.
Take care of yourself, and keep taking your crazy meds!

All rights reserved. No warranty is expressed or implied in this information. Consult one or more doctors and pharmacists before taking, or changing how you take any neurological and/or psychiatric medication. Your mileage may vary. What happened to us won't necessarily happen to you. Nobody on this site is a doctor, therapist, or a pharmacist. We don't portray them either here or on TV. Only doctors can diagnose and treat an illness. Some doctors tend to get pissed off by patients who know too much about medications, so tread lightly when and where appropriate. Diagnosing yourself from a website is like defending yourself in court, you suddenly have a fool for a doctor. Don't be a cyberchondriac, thinking you have every disease you see a website about, or that you'll get every side effect from every medication. Self-prescribing is just as dangerous. All information on this site has been obtained through personal experience, the experiences of my friends, the experiences of people reported on online support groups, and from sources that are referenced throughout the site. Know your sources! As such the information presented here is not a substitute for real medical advice from your real doctor, just a compliment to it. No neurologists, psychiatrists, therapists or pharmacists were harmed in the production of this website. All brand names of the drugs listed in this site are the trademarks of the companies listed after them in the pages about the drugs, even though those companies may or may not have been acquired by other companies who may or may not be listed in this site by the time you read this. Always read the PI sheet that comes with your medications and never ever throw them away. If you didn't get a PI sheet, demand one. Loudly. Crazy Meds is not responsible for the content of sites we provide links to. We like them, or they're paid advertisements, or they're something you should read to make an informed decision about a particular med. Sometimes they're more than one of those things. But what's on those sites is their business, not ours. Very little information about visitors to this site is collected or saved. And from time to time I do look at search terms used to find it in an effort to make the information I present more relevant. Use only as directed. Void where prohibited.
