evidence of efficacy?

4 posts in this topic

This goes for all SSRI's and SNRI's...

I keep reading / hearing that the evidence supporting their effectiveness is extremely scarce. That they are only slightly clinically more effective than placebo - and that's in the trials where they beat placebo at all.

There must be some convincing trials out there? Or are the trials themselves questionable? Or have I been taking useless rubbish that gives me horrendous withdrawal symptoms?

This worries me.

Zel.

Just realised I probably should have posted this in Antidepressant Miscellany. Whoops.

That evidence refers to cased of mild to moderate depression. For severe depression SSRI/SNRI ADs have been demonstrated to be statistically superior to placebos. That being said, still unfortunately infective or only partially effect in an unacceptable number of cases. Coupling AD treatment with talk therapy seem to yield better outcomes.
