For some reason neurontin makes me hyper instead of calming me down. I feel speedy and my mind is racing. It used to calm me down and helped me sleep. Why is it having the opposite effect now? Has anyone else experienced this?

If it used to calm you down, has anything else changed since this began? What about your viibryd and wellbutrin doses? Or any triggering events? How long after your pill do you feel speedy?

I would say it takes about an hour to fully kick in. I used to take it 3 times a day everyday but now I really only take it when needed. I didn't always like the feeling it gave me when I started the Wellbutrin. It worked really great when I was on Lexapro. My Welly dose has stayed at 300 for awhile now and I have titrated up to 40mg of Viibryd from 20mg about a week and a half ago. At 20mg of Viibryd I would get real jittey and anxious. I took the neurontin to help and it did to some degree. At 40mg I get sleepy and lethargic and when I took the neurontin yesterday my brain and everything else was on hyper speed. It also has a tendency to make me want to giggle uncontrolably. It's almost like I am high. Some nights I have a hard time sleeping or staying asleep but I am not sure which med is truly causeing. I always seem to wake up at least once at 2:30 everynight.

As far as a trigger I am not sure what it could be.

My guess would be to blame the Viibryd since it's a known side effect, though not so common. I suppose it's also possible that Viibryd could be pushing you hypo (you don't have to be bipolar to experience this effect). Since you experienced some relief when you were at 20 of Viibryd, pushing the Viibryd up to 40 may just have been too much for your current dose of Neurontin to be effective. In my case, I noticed that I needed more Neurontin after I started taking Lamictal -- known to be activating.

How much Neurontin are you taking and have you been able to replicate this reaction when taking Neurontin again? I take 600mg qid (total of 2400mg).

Your doctor should be able to give you a straight (or more educated) answer, but you may also want to consider increasing your Neurontin to see if it's more effective at a higher dosage, assuming that it's not the Neurontin that's causing it. Your symptoms might also subside once your body gets more used to the higher dosage of Viibryd.

I would also think the increased viibryd has something to do with it. Also, for me at least, if I miss a dose of neurontin, I can start to get kind of anxious and ramped up. Maybe taking it inconsistently could be affecting its calming effects. From what I've seen by others, though, viibryd can make people feel quite speedy or jittery.

I am at 300 of the neurontin. I have felt that way several times when taking it. I just got back from the pdoc and I told him how I have been feeling really restless and how I am having a hard time calming my mind down. He decided to take me back down from 40 to 20mgs of the Viibryd and see how that effects me. He says to keep taking the neurontin to see if it will now help with the restlessness. So i guess we will see.
