Anyone know of any research (or anecdotal info, I suppose) about lamictal affecting iron levels? I've had very high levels of iron my whole life - about triple the normal level. (Seems to be genetic, my mother and siblings all have the same, and I'm certainly not complaining!) About two years ago my iron levels on a routine annual exam showed up as below normal levels. Wouldn't necessarily have been a huge thing except that the shift between 3x the norm for my entire life to below normal is a significant difference.
Levels came up high enough to be ignored about a year ago.
Last week, I had some blood tests come back again showing low iron levels. Today it occurred to me that I'm back on lamictal, which appears to be the only common denominator between the timing of the two tests, (and I was not on it during the year in between in which the levels were (relatively) normal., so I'm wondering if there is a connection. Anyone heard of lamictal-induced anemia?

Who needs research when it's in the PI sheet? Every anticonvulsant has a large "Blood & something else" section in its list of adverse effects.

As in hemochromatosis? That has the potential of being a problem, but at least it's easy to treat and you get paid for it: periodic blood donations.
