I've been on Deplin now for 2 weeks and it hasn't seemed to do squat. I'm using it to augment Lexapro and Remeron. ( With a little Klonopin on the side ) Does anyone else out there have experience with it? Positive, negative, anything? I'm sure I can't be the only one. Lately my energy, drive, and now mood have all started to drop. I'm only at 10mg of the Lex so I could up that to 15 or 20. Should I keep going with this "Medical Food," or up the Lex which personal experience shows would help? ( and hopefully keep me from dropping all the way down to near suicidal again )

Any and all comments appreciated. Much love to everyone out there who has to deal with this kind of crap. TT

Dx: MDD w/ Seasonal Component
Current Meds: Lexapro ( again ) 10mg/AM Deplin 7.5mg/AM Remeron 45mg/PM Klonopin 1mg as needed.
Previous Meds: Lexapro ( worked for a long time before it died ) Celexa ( same as Lex ) Wellbutrin ( as a booster, gave me panic attacks ) Zoloft ( super sick, couldn't even make it a month ) Prozac ( a couple days in it gave me a continuous intense panic attack my meds-doc ignored 3 pages and I almost ended up in the psych ward. His boss saved me with 2mg of Ativan every 4 hours for 2 days )

I've checked out this stuff but I've never tried it. It may take a little more time for it to kick in. Or per their website:

Over one half of the general population is compromised in it's ability to break down folic acid into L-methylfolate (MTHFR C->T polymorphs) and is even higher in people who suffer from depression15, 16.

So maybe your ability to break down folic acid isn't compromised?

I've been on Deplin for about six months, and I swear by the stuff. The first week I started taking it, my energy levels went up noticeably, and it wasn't a manic rush but a smooth rise in overall feeling. I could definitely tell the difference. I do feel like I am getting more bang from the Prozac.

The next month I didn't take it, because insurance does not usually cover it, and boy, did I notice the difference! Everything went back to flat. So now I make sure I budget for it (approximately $60 for 1 mo/supply).

My p-doc said that anecdotal reports are that this drug is more noticeably effective in women than men, because women have issues with taking in and retaining adequate levels of folic acid, similar to what they are now finding in people with depression.

Maybe your folic acid levels are already just fine and the Deplin is, therefore, ineffective?
